Appeals

A new Appeal - launched May 2024 - The CAB

We have spoken to a number of companies to establish an estimated price for the construction of Spirit of Sandringham’s cab. Initial views are that it could cost in the region of £55,000 for 1) the preparation of CAD drawings from the original LNER plans that we have in our possession, 2) the fabrication and assembly of the entire cab metalwork and 3) painting in a livery still to be agreed.

We have decided to split this appeal into 4 phases and have produced a graphic for each of these, the one for the first phase being shown below. This may look complicated at first but it is relatively simple and should be enjoyable to watch as each issue of The Spirit marks progress as the individual segments are coloured in.

Left side fabrication B 14 RS9 reduced

This is Phase 1 to raise the nominal £20,000 estimated for the cab’s left hand side. The graphic is broken down into 40 segments of £500 each, with the final five segments being the locomotive’s numbers themselves. Sorry, but please note it is not possible to make a donation towards any specific segment number.

Phase 2 will be the front elevation of the cab, costing £5,000, broken down into 10 segments of £500 each.

Phase 3 will be the right hand side of the cab, broken down exactly as Phase 1.

Phase 4 will be finishing off with the cab roof costing £10,000 broken, down into 20 segments of £500 each.

If you can make a contribution to the Fund, please send your donation cheque made out to: The B17 Steam Locomotive Trust, c/o 171 Clifton Road, Shefford, Bedfordshire SG17 5AG, marking the envelope for 'CAB Appeal'.

Boiler Deposit Fund

This fund has a target of £70,000. This is the amount needed to place a 10% deposit with our selected boiler manufacturer, who requires a deposit so that we can be placed on the waiting list for boiler manufacture. As of March 2024 the fund had reached £29,915.
